I wish I had known the pool in the woods
From the very first day she looked clear at the sky;
I would have met all the woodland creatures
Who have taken gently from her water

I miss most when her caressing coolness\u00a0
makes glad the hot heavy heat of summer
But also when in autumn our return to dust
Is dressed in flashing joy and smoldering hope
And even in winter, armored in ice, crowded in snow
The same green peace steadies gray skies unseen.
Spring beyond words turns tears into laughter\u00a0
